2- Sawing with a gangsaw:
Cutting a bloc to obtain 2 or 3cm thick slabs
3- The cutting up:
to cut a bloc using of a steal or carbon diamond disc.
4- Primary cutting:
to make thick slabs from a stone bloc.
5- Secondary cutting:
To make tiles or any size pieces from slabs
6 - Sawing with a diamond coated wire:
A twenty years old process that allow to cut straight from a montain huge granit, marble or limestone blocs.
Since a few years, this process is also used in factories to square blocs or to cut them into slabs using multi-wire machines. David Fernendez Grande group, has been the first to introduce the multi-wire cutting in 1999 in Madrid as you can see in the following pictures.
7 - Sawing with a chainsaw:
Sawing with a chainsaw working exactly like a wood chainsaw, used only to cut limestone
8 - Spliting:
Splitting slabs in 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 or 20cm thickness to produce cubes or tiles to give it a raw & rustic aspect.
The mecanical spliting is made via a machine that actually looks like a big 'guillotine'.
All granits would not split the same way, depending the granite composition.
9 - Bushammering:
Manual bushammering with a hammer: giving an old aspect to a stone by hitting it with a special hammer. This artisanal technic is still used in our workshops.
Manual bushammering with a pneumatic hammer: same technic as above but allow the worker to save time. This process is used when we can't bushammer special pieces in our machines, such as bordure stone or stair treads.
Automatic bushammering: done with specials machines
10 – Shotblasting:
Shotblasting stones is a way to give a uniform 'rough' finition by projecting steal balls.
11- Flamming:
Flamming a granit or a limestone consist of putting the stones under high temperatures flammes to give a rough aspect & non-slippery surface as well as emphasazing the colors.
12 - Cutting:
Manual finition on stone to get the finished aspect
13 - Packaging:
The packaging is an important part of the process because it allow an ultimate quality check of the pieces before choosing the best & safer way to pack them up before delivery. Each type of product have a unique packaging.
14 - Cleaning & protecting process
Cleaning the stones before their final use is recommended as well as protecting them to make sure the stones does not lose their original aspect & colors, and prevent futur soiling (chewing-gum, environmental pollution…). We can provide cleaning & protecting services via our partners, companies specialised in those type of services, having decades of experiences.
1- Men and machines:
As efficient as machines can be, they will never be able to replace entirely the manual work of a man, from programming automatic machinery, to maintenance or simply taking out slabs from a sawn bloc under a chassis.
